I Can't Believe I Did it Again!

I sewed through my fingernail and finger! I had a thread jam and while working to fix it, I bumped the one stitch button and ran the needle through my finger. I love my new Innova machine but I have got to get some kind of protector to keep from bumping that button. In 8 years of long-arm quiltng I never even came close to sewing my finger and I've done it twice in one month. I'm beginning to get the shakes just thinking about starting to quilt in the mornings. I've put in my "protector" request in to my engineer husband. I'm sure he'll come up with something soon, at least I hope so.

Meanwhile, I get to go to a 3 day quilt camp this weekend. Maybe I can get my nerves settled down some there.

  1. Wow, I am so sorry to hear about sewing your finger. I can't believe that on the Innova you can "bump" the one stitch button and it comes down. That is so dangerous. I have an APQS and you have to hold in a control button while pressing any of the other buttons. It is a feature that I used to think unnecessary, but for obvious reasons, there for safety. Again, I am very sorry that happened to you. Be well.

  2. Oweee!! I have done that twice with my regular machine, but so far not with my long arm. Those needles are big, and thick. Ouch!

  4. Ouch Viki.....I knew what you had done as soon as I saw the topic title.......I guess you've just got too comfortable with these machines.....is it true that you just have to touch one button???? When I worked for a clothing manufacturer years ago you couldn't use a machine without a 'needle guard' don't know if that's just this country but I am very surprised that these powerful longarms don't have some kind of guard but then visibility would be compromised wouldn't it?

    Are you still quilting.....be safe???

  6. Not good. Be careful. None of us can afford for you to do any more damage to those talented fingers/hands. Looking forward to Paducah.
