What a great, but exhausting evening we had celebrating 2 birthdays and the 4th of July (actually the 3rd)! We cooked on the grill, ate my husband's traditional birthday cake (oatmeal with broiled coconut topping) and ice cream. Then we made a rope by twisting 3 other ropes together by the boy scout method to hang it 30 feet up on a huge walnut tree limb. It got pretty dark by the time we got it up in the tree so we had to save the actual swinging for another time.
One of the "not so traditional" activities of the evening included mastering (or remastering in my case) the art of hula hooping. Everyone got a real hoot out of the facial expressions and body movements as we struggled the first few, ok, several, times to keep those hoops up and moving. And of course, my daughter had to one-up me by doing 2 hoops, although she couldn't keep them going more than a couple of seconds.
And here's the birthday girl with her new quilt.
Gosh, I haven't tried a hoola hoop in ages! I bet the birthday girl loved her quilt!
