Can you quilt the ugly out?

Here's a new one for me…Can you quilt the ugly out? This quilt was made by a customer and good friend. It is beautifully pieced, but the purple fabric bled all over the quilt, which at one time was purple, blue and a lovely yellow. Now it is a grayish color and it made me sick to see it be so much less than it was at it's creation. We laughed about trying to quilt the ugly out and I had a really difficult challenge deciding what color thread to use. I used the prettiest pantograph I could find and finally decided on purple thread to try to brighten it up. The grayer color I thought about using to blend in just dulled the quilt even more. Did I quilt the ugly out? Well, it isn't the stunner it was meant to be, and that saddens me, but she said at least she will not feel guilty about using this one all the time.

  2. She might try soaking the quilt with Dawn dish detergent and color catchers. I soak in really hot water and lots of water (like the bath tub) and soak overnight. Try that a couple of times or until the water runs clear and that should remove most of it.
